NSW: Illegal fireworks being sold in western Sydney

Fireworks containing dangerous explosives are reportedly being sold in western Sydney
to people without proper permits.

Bankstown MP Tony Stewart has told The Sunday Telegraph he was able to buy large quantities
of firecrackers, including skyrockets and bungers.

He says he bought the fireworks without permits from stores in Villawood and Liverpool.

A pyrotechnician's licence and Workcover permits are required to purchase these items.

Mr STEWART claims young people are using the gunpowder from fireworks to make firearms.

And he says lit firecrackers have been thrown into houses and through car windows at
traffic lights.

The paper says Workcover is investigating the matter.
