Fed: Rorts allegations beginning to recede
The Howard government appears to have weathered accusations of double standards as
Labor attacks on alleged rorts recede.
Not one question was asked during Question Time in the House of Representatives yesterday
after a strong attack by Labor earlier in the week.
But Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD remains under pressure after refusing to investigate
allegations of rorts by Liberal MPs because they denied the claims.
Labor leader KIM BEAZLEY said Mr HOWARD had set a new standard by taking the statements
of his ministers without any investigation.
He says the average burglar would love that standard test applied to them.
Mr HOWARD has rejected comparisons between the problems confronting Labor in Queensland
and the claims made against Sports Minister JACKIE KELLY.
